Event: University of Minnesota Beekeeping short course
Location: St. Paul, Minnesota

Yearly course to teach managing bees in cold climates. Other topics covered are equipment needs, disease and mite control, and extracting, bottling, and marketing honey. The cost for the two-day course if $55, which includes a 68-page manual, lunch, and refreshments.

Event: ANR Beekeeping Program at Michigan State University
Location: Kellogg Center, East Lansing, Michigan State University

Yearly conference style program to cover current topis in beekeeping. Usually we have two invited speakers from out of state, plus the resident apiculturist Zachary Huang. Usual cost is $15 per family.

Event: Sante Fe Institute Social Insects Working Group
Location: Santa Fe, New Mexico

Held around the first or second week of October each year, the working group uses social insects as models to integrate organizational concepts of neurobiology, behavior, and social biology. This group is by invitation only.

Event: Charles Mraz Apitherapy Course

This course is designed for people new to apitherapy and for experienced apitherapists who are interested in learning the latest in apitherapy treatments. Yearly conference devoted to educating beekeepers about basic beekeeping and honey bee biology. Has separate workshops and conferences.

Event: XXXVIII International Apicultural Congress (Apimondia)
Location: Ljubljana, Slovania

Held every two years, Apimondia is an international conference bringing together beekeepers and scientists from around the world. This conference emphasizes more applied research.

Event: 2003 ESA Annual Meeting

A yearly conference with mostly American entomologists (people who study bug s), they have a section that deals with bees and other social insects (wasps, an ts and termites) (Section Cb: Apiculture and Social Insects). Usually geared to ward more basic research on honey bees.

Event: 7th INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE OF AAA

Held every two years (in 2002, it was at Bangalore, India), Asian Apicultural Association (AAA) conference will emphasize development and managemeng of indigenous Asian bee species, in addition to Apis mellifera.

Event: JH-8
Location: King's Beach, California

The Eighth International Conference on Juvenile Hormones, JH 8 (or JH VIII) focuses on juvenile hormone only (perhaps the most focused conference). JH is an important hormone that regulates metamorphosis in nearly all insects and also regulates division of labor in adult honey bee workers. Held once every three years, this conferences attracts 60-100 scientists from around the world.

Event: IUSSI-NAS

This is the North American Section of the IUSSI (see below), which usually meets yearly with Entomological Society of America (ESA), but every 2-3 years meets separately.

Event: XV INTERNATIONAL CONGRESS OF IUSSI
Location: Washington DC, USA

Held every four years, the Congress of International Union for the Study of Social Insects deals specifically with social insects (ants, bees, wasps, and termites, plus the social aphids, beetles, and thrips recently discovered). Most research are devoted to basic understanding of the social bugs.
